Jelani Maraj, 37, was photographed on Dec. 9, as he arrived in court in Mineola, New York for a preliminary hearing, following charges that he repeatedly raped a 12-year-old. The brother of Nicki Minaj, 33, Jelani has kept a very low profile since news of the charges first broke on Dec. 3. Wearing a navy blue suit with a white button down shirt, he was accompanied by his mother, Carol, and his lawyer, Andrea Zellan. Nicki, though, was not present. See the photos of Jelani HERE.
elani was arraigned on Dec. 4, following charges of first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct with a minor, according to reports. Jelani reportedly “had access to” the alleged victim, who is 12 years old, according to the New York Daily News. Each of the two crimes could both be punishable with nine to 25 years in prison.
“Mr Maraj’s bail was set at $100,000,” a spokesperson for the District Attorney’s office told HollywoodLife.com. The bail was posted, and Jelani was subsequently released from the Nassau County Jail in East Meadow, New York. Currently, the name and gender of the victim is being withheld from the public, due to the fact that the individual is a minor.
