The
official Champions League account wished Lionel Messi a happy birthday
on Saturday as he turned 30, but were probably not expecting a
backlash on Twitter. Their caption asking if he is "the greatest" caused
Cristiano Ronaldo fans to get involved, with them being quick to salute
the Real Madrid attacker.
Some
Barcelona and Messi fans said that there was no need for a question
mark in the tweet, but these were outnumbered by irate Ronaldo fans who
feel that the Portuguese is better than his great rival.
Messi could have been a Madrid player
"You
spelled Ronaldo wrong" was a common theme, with many fans posting
Ronaldo gifs and pictures to show their support for the Portugal
international
Messi has also been receiving numerous birthday messages from fellow players, teams and fans on social media.
At
just 30, Messi has set many records, as well as winning four Champions
League titles, eight La Ligas and five Copa del Rey trophies.
