Two people have been sent to hospital after a vehicle crashed into a Surrey bus stop this evening.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue. A white Chevrolet Corvette was travelling north on King George when the driver lost control and struck the bus stop shelter.
Surrey RCMP say the suspect driver the fled on foot and headed into a taxi. A witness relayed the information to police, who were then able to stop the taxi and arrest the suspect.
King George was closed from 96th Avenue to Fraser Highway while crews investigated and cleaned up the wreckage.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, though alcohol is believed to be a factor. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to phone Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
The accident comes a day after a young man died after being hit by a jeep while waiting at a Surrey bus stop at Fraser Highway and 156th Street.
