Celine Dion brought the AMAs audience to tears with her heartbreaking tribute to Paris in the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks there. She sang a song of love in French dedicated to the city and it’s victims, and her performance brought tears to many in the audience.
Celine Dion, 47, took a break from her Las Vegas residency to perform live at the American Music Awards Nov. 22. She sang a version of legendary French singer Edith Piaf‘s “Hymne a L’Amour,” as images of the French capital — including the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower — were projected on a screen behind her. The emotional performance was a sharp turn to an otherwise uplifting night of music, but paid a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives in the deadly Paris terrorist attacks of Nov. 13.Looking somber yet beautiful, Celine wore a black halter gown that was belted and the waist and had a full skirt with bold flowers along the bottom. With her golden hair in waves across her shoulders, she poured her heart and soul into the song and her powerful voice was filled with so much emotion! Even though the lyrics were in French, everyone in the audience could feel their heart-strings tug as the camera panned away several times to faces in the crowd with tears streaming from their eyes. When the song ended Celine received a loud standing ovation.

Celine’s performance was introduced by Oscar winner Jared Leto, who had a thoughtful recollection of playing at the Bataclan Theater with his band 30 Seconds To Mars in May 2015. He recalled the “beautiful, peaceful” theater and paid tribute to a friend he lost in the massacre there Nov. 13 that claimed 89 lives. Jared also noted “France matters, Russia matters, Syria matters…the entire world matters,” he said. “And peace is possible.”
