Happy Birthday, Shakira! The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer turned 39 on Feb. 2 and experienced quite a year filled with more music, more business endeavors, and more record-breaking views. Help us celebrate the last 12 months by remembering some of her year’s highlights!
It’s Shakira’s special day! As she celebrates getting older, let’s remember all that went down over the past year. She passionately spoke out to UNICEF about early childhood development, was featured as a playable bird in a popular app, and released a new single for a highly-anticipated Disney film. Celebrate her birthday with us and take a look at all that’s happened in her 38th year!Shakira flew to new heights this past year — literally — as she took on a completely new role, a bird! The Columbian beauty was featured as a playable bird in the hit game Angry Birds POP! in September and also in a special tournament in the app Angry Birds Friends. Shakira as a bird, how cool is that? But that’s not the only game the singer was featured in this past year. Love Rocks starring Shakira was the first video game with the pop star, which was released in October.
Apparently 2015 was the year of animal transformations for Shakira as it was announced in August that she would be playing a gazelle with blond hair and a midriff in the Disney animated movie, Zootopia. The movie is set to hit theaters in March 2016, but the original song for the film, “Try Everything,” was released in January and is already a hit — guess who sang it! Seriously, from performing voice-overs, to singing, to staring in apps, is there anything Shakira didn’t conquer this past year?
The freshly-turned 39-year-old even had the title of diplomat under her belt when, in September, as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she urged UNICEF to devote greater efforts toward early child development. You go Shakira! She has also promoted early literacy programs, such as Glenn Doman’s “How to Teach Your Baby to Read.” Is she an inspiration or what?
Shakira didn’t stop there though, she also broke records with her 2010 World Cup song, “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).” Her famous song was officially declared the 20th video to hit the billion-view mark on YouTube on Jan. 26. What a milestone! Clearly Shakira had one heck of a year but we hope this next one is even better!
